In pursuance of my conversation with you little time ago on the subject of the Hongkong Naval Dockyard, I have given the matter further consideration in the meantime and have also consulted with Mr. B.D.F. Beith, this year's Chairman of the Hongkong Dock Co., and a Director of Jardine, latheson & Co., Ltd., who is now in this country on short leave.
Mr. Beith agrees with me that the present time is opportune for the Admiralty to reconsider the question of disposing of their Yard in Hongkong to the Colony and arranging to transfer the work to the Hongkong Dook Co. The latter, as you probably are aware, have already undertaken considerable work and repairs for
H. U. Navy in the past and recently of a special mature in the refitting of a number of submarines.
The actual details of an arrangement of this nature would have to be left to those on the spot to work out, and at the present time it is only necessary for me to point out that the Hongkong Dock Co. is a thriving concern (locally registered) and well known to many as a very efficient and up-to-date Yard capable of dry- docking a vessel up to 1,200 feet length.
